Mrs. Margaret L. Ward Rodgers Foster
Mrs. Margaret L. Ward Rodgers Foster, 79, fondly known
as "Shag" (She-She) of 725 Brook Ave., Suffolk, Va., went into eternal
rest on Jan. 28, 2008 in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was predeceased
by her parents, John and Winnie Horner Rodgers.
She was a member of the
First Baptist Church, Mahan Street. In 1946, she graduated from the East
Suffolk High School and later earned a degree in education from Elizabeth
State University. She taught at the East Suffolk High School for many years
and in Portsmouth Public Schools for 25 years until her retirement in 1988.
She was a devoted member both the DAV Veterans Auxiliary and the Hospitality
Committee for the Harris Funeral Home.
Her survivors include one daughter,
Gwendolyn L.W. Joyner, of Suffolk, one son, Victor D. Foster, of Lithonia,
Ga.; two granddaughters, Tonita Lassiter (Tommy), of Suffolk and Kimberly
(Marcus), of Suffolk; one sister, Alice V. Harris, and one brother,
John Rodgers, both of Suffolk; three great-grandchildren, Devin Joyner,
Keenen Ash and McKenzie Young, all of Suffolk. She will be greatly missed
by special nieces, Winnie Jeanette Carson and Vanessa Harris, both of Suffolk,
and a host of other loving relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sister,
Gladys R. Davis.
A funeral of triumph will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008 at the
First Baptist Church, Mahan Street with the Rev. Steven Blunt officiating. Burial
will be in the Carver Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Harris Funeral Home. Mrs. Foster will also be viewed on Saturday at the church from 11:30 a.m. until service time.
